Graingrass - Oat (Triple Shot)
Graingrasses such as Wheatgrass are a fantastic source of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant phytonutrients, along with famously detoxifying chlorophyll. Oatgrass has the added benefits of being pet-friendly, and providing mild anti-depressant, stress-alleviating and anxiolytic ('anxiety-reducing') effects.
Juice for shots with a pleasingly grassy flavour and peppery kick, or chop and blend to add to smoothies, soups, stews and sauces to include its valuable dietary fibre. Sold by the tray, with compostable organic growth medium, for your fresh harvesting convenience, and ready to harvest a 2nd time 2 weeks later.
This larger tray size (5x9") provides enough Graingrass for 3 servings, with just 5 trays providing enough Graingrass for a month of daily use! They also fit conveniently on a window ledge, making it incredibly easy to adopt a healthy new regimen. In trials, a 3x5" harvest section (1/3 tray area) yields an average of 20g Graingrass and 15g juice (roughly 1/2 fl oz, or 1tbsp).
As always, when adding something new to the diet, start with a small amount and build up slowly to make sure your system tolerates it well. Fresh, raw Graingrass juice shots are especially well-known for their inital impact on the system during detox', but this can be managed by gradual introduction.
Harvesting Instructions
Harvest Graingrass using clean, sharp kitchen scissors 1" above growth medium ('soil') level, removing 6-8" of the grass blades. Continue watering to keep the growth medium surface moist to the touch and harvest a second time about two weeks later, when grass blades have reached a similar length. Nutritional content is greatest when the grass blade produces its first 'notch', from which a secondary leaf will emerge.
Juicing Graingrass
This popular practice adds superfood compounds to the diet without significantly adding calories. A 'slow juicer' (rotary, 'chewing/masticating' type) is best for Graingrass, and you can expect a yield of about 75% juice weight from your grass even from a cheaper online store-bought model; just be sure to pass the pomace (the plant fibres left after juicing) through 2-3 times. Slow juicers are usually superior versus tough plant material, so get best value by using the same device for apple/carrot juice and DIY ginger shots!
